CBS4 & Miami Dolphins Raise More Than $45k For Sandy Relief
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As part of a joint effort between CBS4 and the Miami Dolphins, a total of $45,000 has been raised for the South Florida Region American Red Cross for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.
Former Dolphin Sam Madison and CBS4's Kim Bokamper were set to present a check to the American Red Cross Friday afternoon.
The donations came from the purchase of individual game tickets between last Thursday and Sunday for last week's game against the Tennessee Titans. The move by the Dolphins came after a phone bank was held by CBS4.
The phone bank was part of a network-wide push by CBS which gave viewers an opportunity to phone in and pledge their donations to support relief efforts for the residents of New York, New Jersey and the other areas of the Northeast that were impacted by the storm.
More than $10,000 was raised during the two-hour event.
Between the Dolphins and CBS4, more than $55,000 was raised for the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in the tri-state area.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, the Miami Dolphins, and Related Companies had previously donated $500,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York to help with relief efforts in the area.
