MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Movie stars, musicians, power couples and business titans all took their turn on the red carpet at last night Met Gala, also known as New York's party of the year.
The annual costume ball's theme this year was "China: Through The Looking Glass," named after the new exhibit now on at the Metropolitan Opera.
Vogue's editor in chief Anna Wintour was first to arrive as the co-chair of the event wearing flowery Chanel Couture.
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo chose some early stands outs: Sarah Jessica Parker wore an Asian-inspired gown by H&M and balanced it off with a red and silver Philip Treacy headpiece that looked deceivingly heavy.
"It's light and comfy to wear," said Parker. "Easy, peasy."
Many stars arrived with their designers such as Kate Hudson with Michael Kors.
Gold was one theme. Anne Hathaway in a head-turning Ralph Lauren hooded gown channeling Princess Leia.
Red was also hot on the carpet--George Clooney's wife, Amal, elegant in a strapless Maison Margiela.
Floral, jumpsuits and barely-there gowns had cameras flashing. The most daring? There were quite a few, actually: Jennifer Lopez commanding and demanding attention in a cutout lacey red Versace gown, Kim Kardashian showed off her "assets" in a sheer white Roberto Cavalli gown and Beyonce , defined the term "fashionably late" arriving two and a half hours after the call time wearing an ultra-sheer Givenchy that barely covered.
Lady Gaga nailed the Chinese theme in a black and white Balenciaga with crown and cape, but no cape was bigger and took more people to carry than Rhianna's. She took over the staircase in an over-the-top yellow creation designed by Chinese designer Goo Pei.
Social media was a big part of the night, 880,000 tweeted about the #metgala.

Justin Bieber, looked dapper in an uber cool Balmain jacket. He was the first to break the "no selfie rule" posting tweets with celebs including one with Lady Gaga.
Miami's own Dwyane Wade took to Instagram showing off his handsomeness in Versace and his wife Gabrielle's prettiness in Prada.
