CBS4 Begins Project Broken Window
MIAMI (CBS4) - WFOR-TV/CBS4 has launched a new initiative intended to address the conditions in communities that often prove conducive to crime. "Project Broken Window," named after the theory that urban crime often spreads in neighborhoods and urban environments where brolken windows, blight and disrepair are found.
CBS4 is actively seeking to work with local government agencies and police departments in their efforts to prevent crime.
CBS4 will be producing a series of public service announcements promoting this, and will focus news reports on these issuesthat will air on CBS4.
CBSMiami.com will provide a place for people to get more information about initiatives and programs that can help fight crime in their community by improving neighborhoods.
The overall effort will create awareness of current crime prevention strategies being employed, to help empower the entire South Florida area. Station management recognized and was inspired by the aggressive crime prevention strategy initiated by the City of South Miami to identify homes in serious disrepair and target them for investigation, repairs, or demolition as a means to prevent future criminal activity.
"As a television station, we spend a great deal of our time and efforts reporting on crime," said Adam Levy, Vice President and General Manager of WFOR and WBFS. "However we also believe that in order to make a real difference in our community, it's important to address the causes of criminal behavior and to help local government to prevent them."
CBS4 is inviting local police departments and municipalities to join the station in a call to awareness to help publicize their crime prevention initiatives.
