MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Thousands of riders will pedal this weekend in an effort to tackle cancer by way of raising millions of dollars for research.
CBS4's Rick Folbaum and Irika Sargent will help kick-off the Dolphins Cycling Challenge live from Sun Life Stadium Friday with a half hour special, which starts at 7 p.m.
The Dolphins Cycling Challenge is a two-day event which takes place this Saturday and Sunday. There are six different routes for participants to choose from, which range anywhere from 12 miles, the longest trek a 104 mile-ride.
Whether you are a rider or not, CBS4's special will have all you need to know about the event, even profiling some of the riders with touching stories.
The event officially starts Saturday morning, at 6:45 a.m., with the 104 mile ride which starts at Sun Life Stadium. Several other rides will follow.
The event, a major community initiative, is a collaborative effort between the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with 100 percent of the rider-raised funds going directly to fund research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. CBS4 is a corporate sponsor of the event.
CBS4's VP/General Manager Adam Levy and Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer are set to participate in the ride.
Since its first ride in 2010, the DCC has raised almost $7 million.
