CBS Poll: Obama & Romney Deadlocked
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The latest polling from CBS News showed President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are in a dead heat just a little more than six months before the November election.
According to the poll, President Obama and Romney were deadlocked at 46 percent. The poll was taken after Rick Santorum ended his campaign, which made Romney the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party.
The CBS News/New York Times poll found 54 percent of Republican voters wanted Romney to lead the party into the November elections. That was an increase of 24 percent from the same poll in March when only 30 percent wanted him the nominee.
But the news wasn't all good for Romney. The CBS News poll found 40 percent of Republican primary voters have reservations about him and just 33 percent said they "enthusiastically" support the former Massachusetts governor.
The CBS News/New York Times poll fell in line with CNN's poll of polls that was released Wednesday. It found 47 percent of registered voters back Obama while 45 percent supported Romney. The two point difference was well within the margin of error of the poll.
According to the website RealClearPolitics.com, in an average of all the available polls matching up President Obama and Romney, Obama leads 47 percent to 45.3 percent.
The daily tracking polls and Fox News polls conducted most recently showed Romney with a slight lead. On the other hand, polls from CNN, Reuters, Pew, and ABC News all found Obama with at least a four point lead.
In other polls, Marist College found Obama leads Romney by 22 points in New York and Public Policy Polling found Obama had a five point lead in the critical swing state of Florida.
