Causeway Cannibal Rudy Eugene Laid To Rest In Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Rudy Eugene, the man the world knows as the Miami Cannibal, was laid to rest in Miami Saturday.
Mourners remembered a different Eugene than the one who was shot and killed on the MacArthur Causeway over the Memorial Day weekend as he savagely attacked a homeless man.
The program handed out at the funeral described Eugene as "a boy who aspired to the best, to a man who was focused on enjoying his piece of the American dream" by owning a car-detailing business.
Eugene's brother, Marckenson Eugene, said Rudy was always there for him and often helped him pay the bill when money was tight.
The investigation into what caused Eugene to strip off his clothes, attack Ronald Poppo, and chew off pieces of flesh from Poppo's face is ongoing. It was reported Saturday that no pieces of flesh were found in Eugene's stomach during an autopsy.
Speculation about the cause of Eugene's rampage on Poppo's face have centered on drugs. Undigested pills were found in Eugene's stomach, but the only drug confirmed to be in his system through initial testing is marijuana.
In-depth toxicology reports are expected to take up to two months to complete.
