Cash Will Be Flowing For Mayweather Fight
LAS VEGAS (CBSMiami) - Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has never lost a professional fight and will walk out of his latest fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on Saturday with a record purse of $41.5 million.
Mayweather, who carries a professional record of 44-0, will fight Alvarez, 42-0-1, on Saturday at the MGM Grand in a fight you can see exclusively on Showtime pay-per-view boxing.
While the two fighters will be squaring off to unify the light middleweight championships, the numbers that are being thrown around for the fight are staggering.
For example, the Mayweather fight will be the most expensive pay-per-view in history, charging $74.95 for a high-definition feed. Promoters are expecting between two and two-and-a-half million pay-per-view buys.
In other words, if the broadcast draws the high-end of 2.5 million buys, it will generate $187,375,000 alone.
The MGM Grand has been completely sold out since shortly after the bout was announced and at face value, the tickets sold totaled $!9.9 million.
But Las Vegas is also setting up closed-circuit feeds and have sold 15,000 seats for the feeds at $100 per seat. Promoters are now discussing adding another 10,000 seats for closed-circuit feeds.
In addition, multiple theaters across the country will sell 125,000 seats to the broadcast in their theaters at $25 per seat.
If you didn't buy your tickets to the fight and still want to go, it's going to cost you a lot of money. As of Friday morning, ringside seats were selling for $9,422 per ticket and nosebleed seats were selling for $1,687 on the secondary market.
All total this year alone, Mayweather will earn $73 million from his two professional fights.
