MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A fan favorite has returned to the Miami Marlins.
After being let go by the San Francisco Giants last week, third baseman Casey McGehee has agreed to a new deal with the Marlins.
Last season with Miami, McGehee was named the NL Comeback Player of the Year after hitting .287 with four home runs and 76 RBIs in 160 games.
His solid year earned him a $4.8 million deal with the Giants, but early struggles caused him to grow old with his new team.
McGehee has had his struggles, hitting into a lot of double plays, but he was still a big RBI guy for the Marlins in 2014.
Miami is surely hoping that he can rekindle those fires once again this year. The Marlins have struggled mightily with runners on base, and losing Giancarlo Stanton to a broken bone in his hand has only made matters worse.
This season with the Giants has not been a great one for McGehee. He hit just .213 with two home runs and 11 RBIs while hitting into a league-high 15 double plays in 49 games.
