Carjacking Suspects Caught After Alleged Miami Gardens ATM Heist
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – Two men accused of robbing and carjacking a 22-year old woman at a Miami Gardens ATM are behind bars.
Police say the alleged victim, Maria Urrea, approached the drive-thru at Bank of America in her car when she was suddenly blocked in by a green Jeep, occupied by Juan Jefferson and Frank Jackson and several others. Police say both Jefferson and Jackson were armed with semi-automatic handguns.
According to the arrest affidavit, Jefferson and Jackson got out of the Jeep and approached Urrea, demanded her belongings, and told her to get out of her car
Jefferson then got into the driver's side of the victims' car and searched through all of her personal belongings. At this point Jefferson and Jackson allegedly took all of Urrea's money, debit and credit cards and the two fled in her car.
Later, the victim's vehicle and the subject's Jeep were tracked down by officers using Urrea's cell phone. A chase developed on I-95 and ended at NW 135 St and 6th Ave, where Jefferson was taken into custody.
Jackson, soon after was taken to headquarters and escaped from custody, running through the parking lot. He was apprehended shortly thereafter and taken into custody.
Afterward, Urrea was able to positively identify the two. Other defendants who were in the Jeep during the incident have not been identified.
Jefferson and Jackson are both being held with no bond, and face charges of Armed Robbery Carjacking and Possession of Firearms.
Jackson also being charged with escape.
