Carjacking Ends With Police Chase, Crash
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A carjacking led to brief police chase early Friday morning in Miami early.
It all began around 6:30 a.m. when a good Samaritan stopped to help two people who claimed their SUV had broken down at 525 Northwest 26th Street.
However, Miami police said the two men robbed the good Samaritan at gunpoint and stole his car.
After the robbery, the man ran to a nearby business and called for help
"He called 9-1-1 shortly after his car was taken," said police spokesman Officer Rene Pimentel. "The officers in the area quickly spotted the car, within six minutes they spotted the car. The car takes off, there's a small chase.
It all came to an end at Northwest 2nd Court and Northwest 13th Street when the driver of the stolen car crashed into a tree.
"He bailed out of the car and got caught almost immediately with the victim's ID, money and two phones on him," said Pimentel.
Police identify the man taken into custody as 38-year old Charles Young.
Police are looking for the second person involved in the robbery who was last seen driving the SUV.
