FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A car slammed into a Fort Lauderdale business Monday, injuring one person.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews said it happened just before 1 p.m. at 1551 E Commercial Boulevard.
The dark blue vehicle drove through the Batteries + Bulbs store and ended up half-way into the store.
"Explosion, that's just what it sounded like a big explosion, thought it was fourth of July," said Michael Edwards.
The store owner said a driver in his 70's, who said he's diabetic, hit the gas instead of the brake as he pulled into the parking spot. When it happened, Michael jumped out of the way pretty quickly.
"I jumped pretty far, but I mean, ya, my adrenaline was up there. My hands were shaking afterwards, but I'm glad to see he's all right. Obviously, everyone else is all right. I was the only one on the floor," said Edwards.
After the hit, employees sprang into action to make sure that driver was okay.
Michael was the closest. He was on the phone when it happened, but the person on the end would never guess someone just made the store into a drive through. He stayed very calm, telling the person on the other line, "Ya, I got your email. All right, thanks, good bye."
