Driver Pulled From Dangling Car Off Side Of Parking Garage In Miami Springs
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A woman was pulled from a dangling car on the side of a parking garage in Miami Springs on Thursday afternoon.
The car had been hanging off the side of the structure for nearly an hour before rescuers could free the woman.
The garage is located at 700 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Technical Rescue Team responded and eased the woman out of her SUV.
It was within inches of falling several stories to a concrete driveway below.
"A very precarious position, the vehicle was wedged by a few inches of metal on the hatch top," said MDFR Chief Danny Cardeso. "That was the only thing that kept it from falling."
The SUV crashed through steel cables anchored to the walls of the parking garage.
Fortunately, rescue workers were able to secure the vehicle and get the driver out to safety.
"It took us about 45 minutes to secure the vehicle before we were able to safely remove the occupant," said Cardeso.
The driver was treated on scene by rescue workers but she did not want to be transported to a local area hospital.
While understandably shaken up, the driver told firefighters that she did not know what happened.
"She did not say exactly how it happened, so we do not know what happened at this point," said Cardeso.
No one else was injured, according to authorities
