Car, Remains Found During BSO Diving Exercise In Pompano

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A routine diving exercise in Pompano Beach turned into a full-blown investigation after divers found a car belonging to a missing woman.
The Broward Sheriff's office was conducting a training exercise in a canal near 3201 N Palm Aire Drive, when they made the find at around 12:30 p.m.

Chopper 4 footage showed a dilapidated gold-colored 2000 Nissan Maxima was pulled out from the canal. BSO divers found skeletal remains inside the vehicle.
More bones were found scattered throughout the canal, as divers sifted through the murky waters.
Kathleen Platt and Lauretta Patton-Mungroo arrived on the scene believing the car belonged to their missing sister Charlene Azzaro.
Azzaro, 56, was last seen in 2013, at a relative's home in Pompano Beach.
"She walked out August 18th of last year and she ends up in the canal. She's my identical twin sister," said Platt.
The sisters prayed a rosary on Azzaro's behalf.
It's been a tough year for the family. Platt's adult son died three weeks ago from a heart attack. And now, her missing sister is gone.
"Go home, just treasure your loved ones, and everybody and hug them," she said. "You never know when their last day's here. You just don't!"
According to BSO, Azzaro suffered several medical conditions and had been living out of her Nissan.
The investigation is ongoing.
