Hit-&-Run Crash Turns Deadly For Driver Who Slammed Into NW Miami-Dade Home
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A two-vehicle hit and run crash turned deadly for one driver after slamming into a Northwest Miami-Dade home.
The deadly crash took place Tuesday night at the corner of NW 14th Avenue and 77th street.
The family told CBS4 the man who died is 40-year old Edward Durden, but everyone called him John. "John was a beautiful, beautiful spirit, young man, very humble, soft-spoken young man."
"Very big heart, very giving, very respectful, polite," said his uncle Anthony Durden.
He tells us his nephew had several children and a new bride. He got married last month.
"I was honored to officiate his wedding which was a very pinnacle moment as a family to have that happen," he said.
Investigators said Durden was driving a white car, when a black SUV slammed into him, causing the victim's car to plow into a home. Durden was critically injured while the driver of the other car took off running. Durden died at the hospital, leaving his family devastated.
"We have never dealt with this sort of pain as a family ever, we've been covered, blessed, to not have to deal with tragedy," Durden said. "I just lost a brother this past couple of week and a stepmother, so back to back blows. It's very heartbreaking right now."
The people who live in the home that was hit are getting it cleaned up. Latasha Hamilton's grandmother lives here. Everyone is okay.
"This can be replaced. I feel for the family who lost a relative more than anything, especially during the holidays," Hamilton said.
At this point, no one was been arrested and Miami-Dade Police have not named a suspect.
