Canes Proposing Lighted Practice Field, Other Improvements
CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – The Miami Hurricanes have had a whirlwind few weeks. The Canes got good news from the NCAA, were undefeated, lost to FSU and Virginia Tech, and lost star running back Duke Johnson for the season. But the Canes are about to announce a new plan for the future.
The Canes are set to unveil the "Football Victory Fund" later this week that's a $7 million project to allow for the construction of an artificial turf practice facility, a new dining area for Miami's athletes, and four cold-water recovery pools which the school said is necessary for South Florida's climate.
The plan's construction would depend on how quickly the fundraising moved along for the team.
The school has already opened the $15 million Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence earlier this year. The SCAE includes updated meeting rooms, academic areas, locker room space and enhanced training facilities.
