CORAL GABLES (AP) — Miami linebacker Darrion Owens will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Hurricanes coach Al Golden made the announcement two days after Owens was injured in Miami's 44-20 victory at Florida Atlantic. The sophomore played both linebacker positions and started in Miami's season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman.

He's the second significant Miami player out for the year, joining running back Gus Edwards.

Owens will likely be eligible for a medical redshirt, after playing last season as a true freshman. Owens will have surgery later this month to repair the injury, the specifics of which were not disclosed.

Miami faced FAU without top receivers Stacy Coley and Braxton Berrios. Both are expected to practice this week, in advance of Miami (2-0) playing host to Nebraska (1-1) on Saturday.
