Canes Look To Get Back In Win Column Vs. Virginia Tech
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Coming off its first Atlantic Coast Conference loss of the season, the Miami Hurricanes will look to get back to their winning ways against the Virginia Tech Hokies at the BankUnited Center Wednesday night.
The Canes lost last weekend to Wake Forest on the road and struggled mightily against the Demon Deacons. The 15 points loss saw Shane Larkin and Durand Scott struggle to shoot 10-24 from the field and combine for just 30 points in the game.
Big men Kenny Kadji, Julian Gamble, and Reggie Johnson combined to score 16 points in the game as well. Miami committed 23 fouls to Wake's 15 and allowed C.J. Harris of the Demon Deacons to score 23 points on 7-13 shooting.
Not surprisingly, the Canes dropped in the national rankings to fifth in the Associated Press Top 25 and seventh in the Coaches Poll.
Miami enters the Virginia Tech game having won once against the Hokies earlier this season, 73-64, in Blacksburg. Overall, Miami is 12-10 against Virginia Tech dating back to the 2000-2001 season.
Even though the Canes' overall winning streak was snapped, Miami still has q nine-game home ACC winning streak on the line Wednesday night. Miami has hit for better than 42 percent in 11 of its 12 home games and have hit for better than 60 percent in two home game halves.
Miami has won the last four home games by at least 22 points, including blowout wins versus Duke, FSU, Boston College, and North Carolina.
The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables. The game will also be on television on Fox Sports South.
