Canes Jump Into Top 10
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The University of Miami Hurricanes basketball team needed a last second tip-in to secure its latest conference win, but that win has now vaulted the Canes into rare territory for the team in recent years.
Miami is now ranked eighth in the nation, according to the Associated Press, after Saturday's victory over North Carolina State. The Coaches' Poll ranked Miami a questionable 11th below both Duke and Michigan State, both of which Miami has beaten this year.
Miami was ranked 14/15 last week by the AP and Coaches respectively.
The best ranking for Miami comes from the most crucial poll, the RPI. Miami is ranked second in the country in RPI, just behind the team the Canes blew off the court at the Bank United Center, the Duke Blue Devils.
The RPI, or rating percentage index, is used by the NCAA men's basketball committee to select and seed the annual NCAA Tournament in March.
