Canes Hoops Lands Big Transfer

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Hurricanes lost star point guard Shane Larkin on Sunday, but picked up a transfer guard Wednesday in former Kansas State guard Angel Rodriguez.

According to CBSSports.com, Rodriguez will also request a hardship waiver from the NCAA so that he may begin playing at UM immediately. NCAA rules typically force transfer athletes to sit out a season unless a hardship can be proven.

Rodriguez, a native Puerto Rican, played high school ball in Miami and has family in South Florida, which helped him decide to transfer to UM.

Last year at Kansas State, Rodriguez averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists. Against archrival Kansas, Rodriguez had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists in the first meeting and in the second finished with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists.

If Rodriguez can get a hardship waiver, it will be a large boost to UM's offense. The Canes have to replace the entire starting lineup from last year's Sweet 16 team. UM will get help from last year's recruiting class which had two four-star players, according to Rivals.com.
