'Canes Game Start Lightning-Delayed Until 4 P.M.
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) - Not only to the Miami Hurricanes have to take on Kansas State, but they have to contend with a little disrespect from mother nature. Kickoff, set for 3:30, has been moved back to 4 p.m. after lightning was seen in the area of Sun Life stadium.
The delay started at 2:15, but a series of NCAA rules forced the push-back of the kickoff.
A tarp was placed on the field in an attempt to keep it dry as rain moved into the area, but when lightning was seen, the game was given a mandatory 30 minute delay.
Once the game is delayed, a 70-minute mandatory warm-up period is also imposed, to the teams and the crews can get game-ready.
