Candlelight Vigil Thursday For Missing UF Student
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The family of a South Florida teen who disappeared in Gainesville will attend a candlelight vigil Thursday evening in a Sweetwater park.
Christian Aguilar's parents, Carlos and Claudia, along with his brother Alex and his grandparents will all be present at the vigil in Carlow Park at 106 SW 4th Street at 7 p.m. It will be led by Father Luis A. Rivero of St. Thomas University.
Carlos Aguilar said that through the vigil he would like to give his appreciation to the community for their help but also ask that they do not give up on finding his son.
Aguilar, freshman at the University of Florida, and his friend Pedro Bravo were last seen together walking into a Gainesville Best Buy on Thursday, September 20th. Aguilar disappeared that night.
The following Saturday, Bravo, 18, was named a person of interest in the case. Police said he told them he beat up Christian and then left him in a parking lot.
On Friday, September 28th, police charged Bravo with Aguilar's murder. Last Monday, a Grand Jury in Gainesville indicted Bravo on a charge of first degree murder.
Police and volunteers are still searching sections of Gainesville for clues which will lead them to Aguilar's body.
