Campaign Hopes To Prevent People From Leaving Children Inside Cars
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) - Mistakes happen, but when a child's life is at risk as a result of an error, proper measures, like looking inside the car before you lock, must be taken avoid them.
Child care providers, who install alarms that alert the driver when a child has been left in the car, will be eligible for reimbursement.
The Broward County Board of Commissioners recently passed an ordinance that requires child care centers and family child care homes to install safety alarms in vehicles carrying six or more passengers.
The ordinance goes into effect on July 1st.
Just this month, a mother was accused of aggravated manslaughter on a child under 18 after leaving her 11-month old son in the car for an undetermined amount of time.
Officials are also set to unveil a "Look Before You Lock" billboard campaign next week.
