California Fugitive Busted In Coral Gables Awaits Extradition
CORAL GABLES (CBS4) - A fugitive wanted for murder in California and arrested in Coral Gables now awaits extradition.
According to the FBI, Edgar Alvarez, 33, was wanted for the shooting death of Emeon Hernandez inside a restaurant in Moreno Valley, California, on December 29, 2006.
A spokesperson for the FBI in Los Angeles said Alvarez was arrested at a home on Majorca Ave. and Pizarro St.
CBS 4 was there as the man was placed in the back of an SUV and driven away.
When asked about the allegations against him, Alvarez remained stone faced and silent.
Another man was arrested with him. He did not address the media either.
On January 4, 2007, a no bail felony warrant was issued in Riverside County, California charging Alvarez with murder, according to a press release issued by the FBI.
Investigators said they developed information that indicated Alvarez fled to Mexico before returning to the states and living in places like Nevada, Tennessee and Florida.
The FBI said they learned Alvarez was in the Miami area during the last month.
The Coral Gables Police Department and the United States Secret Service assisted in the operation.
Law enforcement in California worked the case over the years and the FBI's South Florida Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force participated in the arrest.
He was held Wednesday night at the Miami-Dade County Detention Center, and will be returned to Riverside County.
