Cabbie Dies After Cab Smashes Into Hollywood Home
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) -- A cab driver died Friday morning after the cab he was driving crashed into a Hollywood home. While the cab smashed through the wall of the home, nobody was in the room when the accident happened.
The Friendly Checker Taxi cab had been heading southbound on 56th Avenue at about 3 a.m. when for an unknown reason it veered off the road, smashed through a fence and smacked into the wall of Malcom Smith's home.
The 20-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with head injuries, according to an unnamed witness. The driver later died, according to police.
While the cab driver lost his life, the Smiths were not home. They had spent the holiday night with relatives in Coral Springs. Had they been home, their teenaged son could have been sleeping in the room where the cab smashed into the home.
