Bye-Bye Butch At UNC
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (CBSMiami.com) – Former University of Miami Hurricanes coach Butch Davis was fired by the University of North Carolina Wednesday evening.
Speculation about his future erupted Wednesday as multiple reports said that Davis had been fired, but the university didn't officially announce the firing until a little after 6 p.m.
Davis' program has been at the center of a NCAA investigation centering around one of his assistant coaches directing players to an agent, academic fraud and players receiving impermissible benefits exceeding $27,000.
The NCAA has already notified the school of their infractions and will almost definitely hit the team with probation, among other penalties.
Davis has a 20-18 record at North Carolina. Davis re-built the Hurricanes program after devastating sanctions crippled the program. He compiled a 51-20 record in six seasons with the Canes.
