Businesses In Doral Still Dealing With High Flood Waters
DORAL (CBSMiami) – Several businesses in Doral have seen much better days than Wednesday. All along 79th Street, parking lots were full, but not with customers' cars.
Instead, water filled the parking lots and the roads around parts of Doral leaving countless cars stranded and businesses trying to pick up the pieces. Some businesses may have lost merchandise in the flood waters spawned after a storm dumped around 9 inches of rain on the area.
"How can you come into a showroom when you have to wade through water," asked Randy Webb who works on 79th Avenue.
Employees at USA Tile and Marble could only get to work by using a truck.
"Most of them parked at a shopping center a few blocks away and we sent one of our semis to pick them up and bring them over here," said Cesar Chaigas of USA Tile and Marble.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Pepe Diaz visited the area to see what the county and city of Doral could do to help the local businesses, but said it's not an easy problem to fix.
"This area's got a lot of private roads. This was built when our code wasn't as strong as it is now," Diaz said.
Nevertheless, businesses are now left to work with the city and county to try and get things cleaned up. They're just hoping the water will dry up before their business does.
"We have no customers. How do customers get in here and make purchases," asked Webb. "It affects the bottom line."
"Then I got some bad weather that should be coming later on, hopefully, that won't happen and we're really praying for that," said Diaz.
