Burress Would "Love To Be A Miami Dolphin"
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – While there's still no deal on the table, a couple of veteran free agents are talking up the possibility of playing for the Miami Dolphins.
Former Dolphins mainstay Jason Taylor sounded open when he was talking about returning once again to play for the Dolphins.
"No ships have sailed, no bridges have been burned," Taylor said, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
If Taylor was willing to take a backup role on the Fins, he could be the solution the Fins need at outside linebacker. The Fins are committed to starting outside linebacker Koa Misi, and his Pro Bowl counterpart, Cameron Wake.
Taylor would be a solid, relatively inexpensive backup to Wake and Misi. But, the Dolphins have shown a penchant for going young across the roster. Taylor's age and his declining numbers may push the Fins away from the former Dolphin.
Elsewhere, at a separate event, former New York Giants Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress said he wouldn't mind suiting up for the Fins either.
"Of course," Burress said to a group of kids at the Urban League of Broward County, according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "There are a lot of things that go into me making that decision and wanting to be here. But of course. Of course I would love to be a Miami Dolphin."
Burress hasn't played in two years while serving a prison sentence. He'll be 34 by the time the season begins, but he could be a powerful red zone weapon, assuming he has his legs back under him. Standing 6'5" and weighing 232 pounds, Burress would be a match-up nightmare and could be a jump ball specialist in the red zone.
But, just like Taylor, Burress' age might preclude the Dolphins from looking at him.
That said, the Fins and their staff are in a win-now mode because all of their jobs are on the line this season. So, players who may have been passed over due to age in the past, may get a fresh look from Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland.
