Burger King Looking To Fire Up Restaurants In India
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — People will soon be able to enjoy a Whopper in Jaipur, onion rings in Bangalore and a Double Stacker in Delhi.
That's right Burger King is making its way to India.
The hamburger chain can already be found in 91 different countries globally.
Everstone Group, which already has a presence in India and Southeast Asia, will work with one of its subsidiaries to build a supply chain in India. The group will also come up with a plan to create restaurants across the country, according to Burger King Worldwide Inc.
Burger King started with just one restaurant in Miami back in 1954 and has grown to become the second largest fast food hamburger restaurant in the world.
About 99 percent of the Miami company's restaurants are owned and run by independent franchisees and more than 13,000 restaurants can be found across the globe.
The agreement with BK will make Everstone the master franchisee for India.
Burger King's stock added 5 cents to $20.36 in morning trading. Its shares are up more than 23 percent so far this year.
