Drive-Thru Restaurant Robbers Go On Broward Crime Spree
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) — BSO and Sunrise police are searching for some drive-thru robbers who went on a crime spree early Friday and struck three fast food restaurants in the span of an hour.
Surveillance video released by Sunrise police shows a man wearing a red bandana on the bottom half of his face trying to hold up a McDonald's at 2260 North University Drive at 4:30 a.m. The clerk shut the window and the gunman ran away empty handed.
"He is armed and we are worried for people's safety since it is a situation where someone can be injured with a weapon," said Cindi McCue from the Sunrise Police Department.
Police said the same suspect was more successful at a Burger King, located at 6125 West Sunrise Boulevard. The same man, police said, held up the clerk at the window and got away with the cash drawer around 3:30 a.m.
"My kids come here everyday. It's sad to know it's not safe anymore," said Burger King customer Natasha Liesdeck.
In between the Burger King holdup and the attempt at the University McDonald's, BSO says the same theives tried to hold up a McDonald's on West Oakland Park Boulevard shortly before 4 a.m.
BSO released surveillance which shows the getaway car pulling up to the drive-thru and placing an order. Next you see a man come out of the shadows about to put a red bandana over his face.
While the driver is seen making small talk with the clerk the masked gunman approaches. The clerk signals someone behind her and then slams the drive through window shut before the thief can get the gun through the window.
The getaway vehicle is an older model red Dodge Neon with tints and was missing the front driver's side hub cap.

"I do come here every day. My kids come here every day. My kids play at the playground. It's sad to know it's unsafe to send them here now," said customer Natasha Liesdeck.
Police said the gunman wasn't working alone. He was a passenger in a red Dodge Neon and is dropped off right before each hold up and then picks him up afterwards.
A third restaurant, a McDonald's at 3073 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Oakland Park, was also robbed shortly before 4:00 a.m.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said both suspects were black males in their mid-20s. The first suspect was heavyset, wearing a plaid shirt, blue shorts and flip flops. The second suspect had short hair and was wearing a white tank top and driving a red, older model Dodge Neon. The vehicle had tints and was missing the front driver's side hub cap.
BSO detectives say it is possible that these are the same suspects involved in the other robberies.
