Bulls' Derrick Rose Out For Season
CHICAGO (CBSMiami) – The NBA's Eastern Division became a little bit easier for the Miami Heat on Monday when the Chicago Bulls announced point guard Derrick Rose will be out for the season after tearing his meniscus.
Rose underwent successful surgery on his right knee to repair the torn medial meniscus. It's the second straight season that Rose has suffered a knee injury that knocked him out for the season. He missed all of the 2012-2013 campaign after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2012 playoffs.
The latest injury for Rose came on a non-contact play against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
The loss of Rose is devastating to the Bulls' playoff chances. With Rose, the Bulls are capable of making a run at the Heat in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Without Rose, the team can still make the playoffs, but is not likely a title contender.
In the first game Rose missed, the Bulls were blasted by the Los Angeles Clippers, 121-82.
Over the last three years, Rose has played a total of 50 games and been paid $41, 028, 896, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.
