Police Hunt For Armed Pompano Beach Robber

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) - One down, one to go, in the search for two men wanted in the armed robbery of a Pompano Beach convenience store.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the robbery of the Cypress Food Store at 290 S. Cypress Road occurred last Sunday. Surveillance tape shows two men entering the store around noon. One of the men then drew a revolver and ordered the customers to floor. He then ordered the clerk to open the register.

Once it was opened, he jumped onto the counter and took the money from the drawer. He then took off his white shirt and used it as a makeshift bag to carry the stolen money.

Robbery detectives were able to arrest the gunman's accomplice. They  identified him  as 22-year-old Melvin Muwwakkil of Dania Beach.

On Thursday,  BSO released the surveillance video of the robbery in hopes that someone will recognize the other robber and give them a call. The guy appears to be 25 to 30-years-old with tattoos on his arm and back that are visible on the video.

Anyone with information is asked to call Robbery Detective Meghan Brooks at (954) 321-4270 or leave an anonymous tip with Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
