Lamberti To Discuss Oakland Park Murder Case On Radio Show
OAKLAND PARK (CBS4)- On Sunday BSO Sheriff Al Lamberti will urge people to call in tips as he discusses the Oakland Park murder case on his radio show.
Lambert's show will air on AM 1470 from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Earlier this week, Broward Sheriff's Office revealed that several people were likely responsible for the killing of an Oakland Park man found brutally murdered in his home at the end of August.
In August, homicide detectives went door-to-door in the Oakland Park neighborhood looking for information that could lead them to a killer but all their leads came up to a dead end.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said just before midnight on Monday, August 31 friends arrived at a home in the 1300 block of NE 34th Street and found 31-year-old Alfred Chad McMurray dead inside the living room.
"I can say this was a brutal murder," explained BSO Spokeswoman Dani Moschella. "It was tragic and violent."
Friends told CBS4 that McMurray, known as Chad to his friends, was bound, shot in the back of his head and left on the ground in a pool of blood in the living room.
Broward Sheriff's detectives recovered McMurray's Toyota Tacoma truck stolen from the house.
Investigators said it was abandoned at a Lauderhill apartment complex. Detectives hoped someone may have seen the person driving it or leaving it at the complex, but no new information came in.
McMurray was recovering from drug addiction when he was killed.
"It didn't just happen," detective Luis Rivera. "We believe Chad was targeted and it was something that was planned and premeditated."
Investigators believe he may have fallen off the wagon – and someone involved in drugs may have killed him.
"We don't know if Chad was using drugs right before he was murdered and we don't know if he was using drugs with the suspects," Rivera said. "We know the suspects knew Chad. We know they were in there with out breaking in, with out any forced entry."
But his boyfriend of one year, Shannon Prewitt, told CBS4's Ted Scouten that McMurray, who moved to South Florida for a fresh start, was doing well and had a lot of plans ahead of him.
"Chad was moving forward," he said. "Chad was very involved in N.A. He was involved in church. Like I said, he was going to culinary school. He was moving forward and trying to make a difference."
Prewitt said McMurray was a good person.
"He was amazing, absolutely amazing," he said. "Chad was the love of my life. Every morning he would wake me up and say, 'good morning baby, I love you!'
Hoping to increase the number of leads coming in McMurray's friends added to the reward money being offered for information that helps catch the killer.
Broward Crime Stoppers were offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed the man.
If you have any information on the case, please call police or Broward Crime Stoppers immediately. The number is (954) 493-TIPS.
