BSO Investigates Possible Murder-Suicide
CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) - The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide involving a man and his ex-girlfriend.
A man's body was found floating in a canal in the Lakewood Village Apartment complex in Coral Springs just after 10 a.m. Saturday. A woman's was found in a car full of flowers outside the Walmart on Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach around the same time.
"At this time our detectives have been able to confirm the two scenes are linked," said Broward Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion. Authorities said clues at both scenes indicate the man and woman were involved in a relationship that recently ended. Sheriff's investigators sayd the man killed the woman then took his own life.
Concepcion said shoppers alerted them to the body of the 35-year-old woman at the Walmart. She adds a neighbor called 911 to report the body floating in the canal.
"I see something white in the water. Nothing normal," recalled Luis Soria.
Soria said he called police when he noticed the water moving. He said when he walked out to the canal, he saw a man face-down in the water.
Police determined the body was that of a 27-year-old man. They have not released his identity, but a neighbor in the complex tells CBS 4 News the man was his nephew. He did not want to be interviewed or give his name, but he did tell us he had not seen his nephew in several days. He added the man and woman had been involved in an on-and-off relationship for more than two years.
The uncle's neighbor, who only wants to be identified as Anna, said she saw the nephew on Saturday morning. She says he walked to his uncle's door and left his keys in the lock. She didn't see what he did after that, but she says her neighbor filled her in.
"He wrote a letter saying that he was going to 'suicide himself'," Anna said.
Neighbors say the man did not live in the Lakewood Village apartment complex. His uncle told CBS 4 News he doesn't know why he would choose to end his live there.
The Medical Examiner will perform autopsies to determine the exact causes of death.
