BSO Honors Reyka, Others Killed In The Line Of Duty
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Family and friends of fallen Broward County Sheriff's deputies gathered at the sheriff's office headquarters to honor and remember deputies who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The newest name on the list is Sgt Chris Reyka, whose murder remains unsolved.
He was killed while looking for stolen cars outside a Pompano Beach Walgreens on August 10th 2007.
His wife Kim remembered him as," kind, generous, always willing to help."
She says she tries to focus on the good memories rather than dwelling on her husband's murder, but Kim Reyka says finding the killer would help piece the puzzle together.
"Who did it? Why did they do it? What was their background?" asked Kim Reyka. "It's something that crosses my mind but I don't dwell on it. I more try to remember the good things and count the blessings in my life that I still have."
Those blessings include two grandchildren, both named after Sgt. Reyka.
While no one has been charged with Reyka's murder, Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti insists there are solid leads and persons of interest.
"When we're ready to charge somebody it will be an airtight locked case," said Lamberti.
