Broward Opens Shelter Ahead Of Cold Weather
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – With overnight low temperatures expected to dip into the mid to upper 40s over the next day or so, Broward County is doing what it can for those who live on its streets.
CBS4 meteorologist Craig Setzer said a healthy cold front pushed through South Florida which opened the door for gusty northwest winds and temperatures to fall into the 40s in the overnight hours. Wind chill values will drop to near 40 degrees in many areas.
Wednesday afternoon they declared a Cold Weather Emergency from 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.
Homeless men and women looking for a warm place to spend the night are urged to be at one the locations listed below no later than 6:30 p.m. for transportation or access to special cold night shelters:
• Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach City Hall
100 W. Atlantic Blvd. (Southeast Corner)
• Fort Lauderdale
The Salvation Army
1445 West Broward Blvd.
• Hollywood
Broward Outreach Center
2056 Scott St. (Shelter Location)
Under bright sunshine Thursday readings will stay mostly in the 60s to near 70. Another cool night is in store for Thursday night with lows in the 40s and 50s. A slow warm up is expected as we head into the weekend with 70s by Saturday and Sunday.
