Broward Declares Cold Weather Emergency
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – With temperatures forecast to take a chilly dip over the next couple of days, Broward County is taking action to help the homeless.
The National Weather Service forecasts low temperatures, including wind chill, in the low- to mid-40s in Broward metro areas overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As a result of the forecast, county officials have declared a Cold Weather Emergency from 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday and from 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.
Any homeless person wanting a warm place to sleep at night is urged to report to the following locations no later than 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday nights for transportation or access to special cold night shelters:
• Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach City Hall
100 W. Atlantic Blvd. (Southeast Corner)
• Fort Lauderdale
The Salvation Army
1445 West Broward Blvd.
• Hollywood
Broward Outreach Center
2056 Scott St. (Shelter Location)
If the weather forecast changes to predict warmer or colder conditions, cold weather emergency shelter nights may be canceled or extended.
