Gun Scare At Broward College, Temporary Lockdown Lifted
DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A gun scare on the grounds of a Broward College campus sent police scrambling to find a woman who may have been armed.
Broward College and the surrounding schools went into a temporary lockdown Thursday afternoon after the school initially warned students that a woman possibly with a gun was on the Central Campus in Davie. The college, along with nearby schools, were placed on lockdown before 2 p.m.
Broward College sent out an alert telling students to "stay off campus or seek shelter."
In addition, Broward Schools put the following schools on lockdown as a precaution: Nova Eisenhower Elementary, Nova High School, Davie Elementary, McFatter Tech Centera & High School, Nova Middle School, and Nova Blanche Forman Elementary.
According to Davie Police, the woman was possibly a student and was seen going into the school's library, but left the library.
Officers searched the grounds and eventually found the woman and questioned her. Turns out the "gun" she was carrying was only a gun shaped lighter.
The school lockdown was lifted and the all clear was given.
