Broward "Coin Crusader" Donates To Red Kettle Campaign Again

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – For the third year in a row, someone feeling extra generous this holiday season, dropped two rare gold coins into a Salvation Army red kettle in Pompano Beach. Both coins were found in the Red Kettle location at the Walmart on South Federal Highway.
The 1947 50 Peso Mexican gold coins were found in their usual manner, wrapped in a one dollar bill. This makes four gold coins received this season by the so-called "Coin Crusader".
The coins are worth about $1,300 each.
"We are thrilled to have received these blessings at a very critical time when kettles are down by 20% from last year's totals during the same time frame," said Major Keath Biggers, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County.
The Red Kettle Campaign began in 1891 and has grown into one of the most recognizable and important campaigns in the United States. Monies raised locally stays within the community, providing services for families with children, housing for the homeless, food for the hungry, and countless other programs for those in need year-round.
"Every piece of change, dollars, checks, jewelry and gold coins dropped into the Red Kettles make a huge difference to those for whom we serve in Broward County," stated Major Biggers. "We are delighted in the help received through this campaign and grateful to those who hear the call to give."
