Broward Allows Voters To Cast Absentee Ballots Tuesday
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – For the first time, Broward voters are able to request, fill out and return an absentee ballot on Election Day.
County officials, along with Palm Beach County officials, agreed to the usual measure Monday to settle a lawsuit brought by the Florida Democratic Party, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
The suit was filed over the weekend in Miami federal court. Citing long lines and long wait times in the final days of early voting, the suit asked the court to "extend voting opportunities" in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, where one out of every three Florida Democrats lives.
Since Miami-Dade already lets voters request and cast absentee ballots on Election Day, they did not have to make any changes as part of the settlement.
In Broward, absentee ballots must be picked up in person at the Voting Equipment Center at the Lauderhill Mall, at 1501 NW 40th Avenue in Lauderhill. They must be returned to either the Voting Equipment Center or the Broward Supervisor of Elections Office Governmental Center, at 115 S. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
As part of the settlement, Broward and Palm Beach also extended office hours Monday for more voters to request, fill out and turn in absentee ballots.
