Broken Sewer Line Capped In Ft. Lauderdale Shopping Area

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Workers have shut down a stinky situation in Fort Lauderdale. Crews have capped a sewer line rupture near the Harbor Shops off the 17th Street Causeway.

A 54-inch sewer line, located in the 1800 block of Cordova Road, broke on Thursday which sent an unknown amount of sewage into a number of parking areas of the shopping center.

Friday morning, city workers shutdown the sewer line which is the first step into repairing the broken pipe.

Crews will remain in the area until the repair is complete.

Residents may resume normal water use; however, a precautionary health advisory is still in effect for the following neighborhoods:

1. Harbor Beach
2. Harbor Drive
3. Harbordale
4. Harbour Inlet
5. Lauderdale Harbours
6. Rio Vista

Residents and visitors should avoid any water-related activities, such as fishing, swimming or jet skiing, in the recreational waters in these neighborhoods.

This advisory will be in effect until further notice.
