Braves Knockout Marlins, 4-1
ATLANTA, Ga. (CBSMiami.com) – The Florida Marlins were hoping to start a new winning streak with an afternoon game against the Atlanta Braves.
But, the Braves were not ready to let that happen as they continue leading the wild card hunt. The Braves beat back the Marlins 4-1 Wednesday in a game that wasn't as close as the final score made it seem.
Atlanta was paced by Alex Gonzalez who belted out a three-run homer during a four-run rally in the seventh inning.
Ricky Nolsaco held the lead for the Marlins until the seventh inning, until Gonzalez's homer and a Martin Prado sacrifice bunt pushed the Braves lead to 4-1.
The Marlins lone run came on a Greg Dobbs home run in the second inning. The Braves pitchers didn't allow a hit past the third inning and didn't allow a runner after the fifth.
Nolasco is struggling as of late with just one win in his last three starts. In his previous four starts before Wednesday, he had a 9.27 ERA.
The Marlins now travel to Philadelphia for a doubleheader make-up series that was postponed August 27th due to Hurricane Irene.
