Boy, 12, Sells Bracelets To Raise Funds For Disabled Kids

MIAMI (CBS4)- A 12-year-old is turning his religious coming of age project into a mission to help children who can't help themselves.

It is story time for a group of special kids who require special attention from those willing to give it to them like a kid named Max.

Max Zager, 12, is making it his mission to help kids live better lives, and it all started at his temple.

"I thought it would be a good Bar mitzvah project to raise money for a couple of chairs," said Zager.

The chairs will be used to help the children at Abi's Place in Coral Springs, a school for children with disabilities whose needs cannot be met at a typical school. At $1,000 each, the chair provides safety and comfort for the children.

"Our children do not know how to control their bodies properly so have them belted in and have them setting properly allows them to work safely," said Carrie Wells.

Zager is raising money to buy chairs by selling silicon bracelets for $2. So far, he has sold almost 2,000 bracelets and wants to sell more to raise enough to buy ten chairs for the center.

"It must be very hard for them to be trapped inside a body that is not very useful," said Zager.

So far, Zager has bought two chairs for Abi's Place and is on his way to buy a third.
