Bosh: 'From Now On, I'm Going to the Doctor If I Get a Cold!"
For Miami Heat star Chris Bosh, returning to an NBA court this season will feel more significant than ever before.
Six months ago, when he was diagnosed with blood clots on his lungs, he wasn't sure he'd live, let alone get back to the hardwood. What made the event especially dangerous and life-threatening was the fact he waited so long to see a doctor after feeling pain in his rib area.
Today he vows to pay more attention to his body, as he revealed in a feature in Sports Illustrated:
Bosh does not know for sure, but he believes his clot developed on a flight from Salt Lake City to Miami last December after he was kicked in the calf during a game against the Jazz. "I didn't wear my compression tights on the plane, which was my first mistake," Bosh says. His second mistake was declining to see a doctor when the pain moved from his leg to his rib. "You're trained to be tough, and you want to keep going for the team, so you kind of put your health to the side. From now on, I'm going to the doctor if I get a cold!"
Bosh is expected to be cleared for contact when Training Camp opens next week and the Heat open their season at home against the Hornets on Oct. 28.
