Bondi Apologizes For Execution Request Delay
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Governor Rick Scott, at Attorney General Pam Bondi's request, delayed the execution of a convicted killer. The reason for delay was not known at first, but it was later revealed that the postponement was because of a scheduled campaign fundraiser.
On Tuesday, Bondi called her decision wrong and vowed that it would never happen again.
Scott, at Bondi's request, delayed the execution of convicted killer Marshall Lee Gore from September 10 until October 1. Scott said he didn't know why the request was made but that it was routine to accommodate requests from other officials.
Bondi, on Tuesday, made her first substantive public comments about the incident since the reason was revealed.
She repeatedly called her decision wrong and apologized.
The attorney general did not say who requested the execution delay. But Bondi said her staff was aware of the reason for the delay.
