Bond Set For Man Charged In Deadly Wrong Way Crash On I-95
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man involved in police chase last month, which resulted in a deadly wrong way crash on I-95, went before a judge Thursday morning.
Willie Dumel, 25, was released from the hospital on Wednesday and was booked into Miami-Dade's jail on four counts of vehicular homicide and one count of driving with a suspended license.
Sporting two broken legs from the crash, Dumel's bond was set at $100,000. If he's able to make bail, he would have to wear a GPS monitoring device. Dumel was also ordered held for violation of probation.
The chase and crash happened on April 3rd. After making an improper right hand turn in Opa-locka, Dumel took off when police tried to pull him over. He drove toward I-95.
With police in pursuit, Dumel got on and off the highway and then, according to police, got back on the highway going northbound in the southbound lanes.
The crash happened just north of Ives Dairy Road when Dumel's Suburban struck and demolished a mini-van with four people inside.
The victims included Albertson Almase, 31, and his 26-year-old sister Kristina Almase, who were both from Fort Lauderdale, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says Almase was in the U.S. Navy and says Kristina Almase was also in the military.
Opa-locka police are still investigating whether the officer involved in the chase followed proper procedures.
