Bond Denied For Lauderhill Double Shooting Suspect
LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – A Lauderhill man charged with the murder of his wife and stepdaughter on New Years Day will remain behind bars.
Tuesday morning, bond was denied for 32-year old Eric Montgomery who is charged with two counts of premeditated murder
It all started early Sunday evening when Lauderhill Police found the bodies of Natalia Montgomery, 34, and her daughter, Alexis Montgomery, 19, inside their home on NW 55th Avenue.
Both had been shot to death.
Police said Natalia had a fight with her husband Eric Montgomery and he began shooting.
"It was a relationship that was bad for her and she paid for it with her life," lamented the victim's mother, Veda Hamilton.
She said the Montgomery's relationship was volatile and that there were warning signs.
"I begged her to leave him and they'd separate, but she'd always go back to him," Hamilton said.
In addition to murdering Natalia and Alexis, Montgomery also reportedly shot his grandmother, 73-year-old Bertharee Tomlin when she tried to protect Natalia. The couple's 7-year old daughter witnessed the shooting but was not hurt.
After the shooting, Montgomery went to his mother's house in Fort Lauderdale, where he'd later surrender to police at around 4 a.m. on Monday.
Police said Montgomery has a criminal past and was on probation for a weapons charge by a convicted felon at the time of the shooting.
