Broward Boil Water Order Lifted
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – A boil water order for up to 250,000 residents of several Broward cities after a Christmas Eve water main break has been lifted.
City of Ft. Lauderdale spokesman Matt Little said the warning was lifted at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
Maintenance crews are not sure what caused the 42 inch pipe to break at NE 38th Street between 5th and 6th streets. Thousands were without water, while others had extremely low water pressure.
"I couldn't shower, I didn't have a toilet," said Laura McLaughlin. "You know men can go out(side), but I can't."
By Saturday afternoon the line was repaired, but a boil water order was issued out of fears of contamination.
"It's a lot of trouble, you see, we are not supposed to be boiling water," said Byron Rivera.
The boil water order will remain in effect until test results confirm that it is safe to drink.
The boil water order affects water customers in Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Oakland Park, Port Everglades Authority, Village of Sea Ranch Lakes, Wilton Manors and sections of Davie and Tamarac.
