Boil Water Order Lifted For Weston

SUNRISE (CBS4) – A boil water order has been lifted for residents of Sunrise, Davie, and Southwest Ranches and now, Weston.

Late Monday, the Florida Department of Health, which oversees the testing process, is gave the all clear to Weston's Indian Trace and Bonaventure communities.

City officials issued the boil water order after they were notified on Thursday that E.coli bacteria was found in a sample of tap-water. By Friday, 'Code Red' phone calls started going out to all customers.

A spokesperson for the City of Sunrise said approximately 200,000 customers in the Sunrise Water Utility Service Area were affected.

"This type of contamination is naturally occurring, in nature we have bacteria all over. We have coliform and other fecal bacteria due to animals and humans," said Sunrise utilities director Tim Welch.

A notice sent by the city said the water system detected fecal indicators in one of the city's wells, and that well was removed from service. The notice said, "One assessment sample in our drinking water distribution system for the month of July was positive for coliform bacteria, but negative for E. coli. A trigger sample following the assessment sample in this well was positive for E. coli."
