POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – Blanche Ely High School has created a basketball dynasty –winning yet another state championship. It's their third in four years.
On Friday, the school and the community celebrated it as one.
Not only was the entire student body, faculty and staff on hand for pep rally, but the school held mini-parade through the surrounding neighborhood.
"It's really an appreciation for our hard for the whole season," said senior center Therrell Gosier.
He added, "It felt really good to win a state title and bring it back to Pompano Beach, Florida."
Head coach Melvin Randall now has six state championships on his resume, but now he can boast an undefeated season.
Blanche Ely is now just the second school in Broward County to ever finish a championship season undefeated.
"These kids have worked extremely hard. From the beach workouts, from the weight training, from the multiple hours in the gym – they are so well deserving of this here," said coach Randall.
The Tigers finished the season 28-0. It's a run that has the team ranked sixth in the country.
However the job isn't complete just yet. In April they'll compete in a national tournament, played at Madison Square Garden in New York where'll they aim for the elusive national championship.
