Bird Strike Causes Emergency Landing At MIA
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A few tense moments for passengers on board a flight to Miami which was forced to make an emergency landing after a bird got caught in the engine.
The American Airlines flight was headed from Chicago to Miami when it "took a bird strike just prior to landing" at Miami International Airport, according to the airline spokesman Matt Miller.
He said an emergency landing was declared on Flight 1388 from Chicago O'Hare International Airport as a precaution and that the Boeing 737 landed safely Thursday evening. The flight had 145 people on board.
In 2009, Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York after striking a flock of geese.
